![]() While I’m on the subject, it IS nice to be able to hit the “Y” button on any card to flip it over and see the signature and name of the artist who made it, along with additional rarity information and flavor text for that card. It would be nice to have a zoom feature for text and menus, by way of a button press. Also – as can often be the problem with Switch ports – there are a LOT of menus and text, and it can be very hard to read in handheld mode. Online play is only available by subscribing to Switch Online, which is a bummer, as this was one of the nice features of the PC version. It’s great that you can win through virtuous or corrupted approaches, too. ![]() You will cycle through day and night cycles (also each with their own advantages and disadvantages), rolling dice and drawing cards to reach one of the victory states. You can also choose a trinket and a signet for further customization. After about an hour, I had made my way through the various components and immediately got into a fresh game, choosing River from the Wolf Clan, because I always love to play archers for reasons I can’t truly explain.Įvery playable character comes with their own personality, nuances, advantages and strategy. Once I learned that there was a port for my beloved Switch, however, I decided to revisit it and see if I could get over the hump. It took me a few failed attempts to get to the end when the game first came out for PC There is a nice tutorial that introduces the many layers to the game by way of chapters dedicated to different characters. I am not going to lie, though, Armello, comes with a bit of a learning curve. It would make a wonderful game for family nights at the cottage, as you play one of various anthropomorphic animals from their respective clans, vying for as much power, prestige or leverage before the King dies from the Rot consuming his mind. And the price is right too.Armello is one of the coolest board games that never existed in the real world. This is the kind of game that older kids as well as their parents will enjoy for a few minutes or hours at a time. There’s plenty to keep you playing though as the game offers plenty of goals to work towards.īecause of the simple controls it’s a good game for kids to play, but the level of difficulty means that younger kids will get frustrated by the second level. This isn’t really a detriment though, as the absence of a plot lets the puzzles stand alone and not feel arbitrary. Coordinating when to “pull” the blocks, avoiding the enemies, avoiding the blocks, etc. It can be a tough thing to describe, but once you see it in action, you understand.Įssentially the game comes down to timing. The player as the titular cubetractor is tasked with “pullling” (via a tractor beam) together various cubes in order to create objects to ultimately take out the enemies on the screen. Where normal tower defense games have players in command of a field placing various defensive and offensive items to ward off swarms of on comers, Cubetractor instead has the enemies populating the playing field along with various cubes. With little in the way of plot, Cubetractor instead offers a lead character that simply enjoys doing the task at hand. Cubetractor is a sort of puzzle defense game where players take control of a “tractor” type device that is sentient, then goes around through various level pulling cubes together to eliminate the enemy types. ![]()
